Dear Family and Friends,
Baptism
for Damas! Since November we have been working with Damas. He followed
the lessons but wasn't convinced that he needed to be baptized or even
needed to change his habits. So we put him on standby, and I was pretty
sure that I wouldn't see him baptized before the end of my mission. But
he decided start coming to church with his wife. He even came to a
family's baptism, and thanks to his continual efforts to be in holy
places, he ended up being very touched by the spirit and accepted to be
baptized. The ward has been working with this couple for more than a
year, doing service projects, bringing them dinners, driving them to
all the activities, and last Saturday was the rewarding moment of
truth when he was baptized. I felt the joy of his Rebirth, at his
baptism. He wept openly and hugged the baptiser for a minute. I am so
thankful for the example of ward members who never gave up! and for the
new things ahead for Damas and his wife Dorris. (She's been harrassing
him for a temple marriage for the last 5 months haha)
I found
that 3 Nephi 12:2 explains our 3 amis and their changes this week. We
engaged 3 of our amis, preparing for baptism to change significant
aspects of their lives. And, like it says in 3 Nephi 12:2, they were
humble enough to accept and God has promised them that they will be
washed of all their sins.
On the hard work side, we had 2
long days of Door to Door Contacting, with some success at Taravao. We
found the french people hang out spot, and got a lot of cold "leave this
street" comments, but one nice man named Robert did want to talk to
us. Too bad he actually just wanted to debate about how Aliens wrote
the Bible and blew up Sodom and Gomorrah with a nuclear bomb.
Papeari is coming along :) And Sr Toofa is en forme! So thankful to be her comp!
