So we
have got "Me-Now". Background on Me-Now is he is 50. He is the husband
of one of our incredible ami's and the Dad another ami. His wife
Deborah has been praying for years that her family can find Jesus and be
good people, but she whenever we ask her if we can do a lesson with her
husband she says he's too hard hearted. Well one day she decides to
give us a chance and invites over for a lesson with him. That was last
Sunday. During the lesson he only talks about his version of God and
the Bible for 2 hours, leaving us 3 minutes at the end to bear testimony
of something a reschedule another lesson. Next lesson comes and we
bring our intense tahitian member to the lesson. And he is starts the
lessons the same, but as we start to teach about Jospeh Smith and bear
witness of living prophets and this big tahitian rock starts to open up,
quiet down and really listen with his heart. It was so humbling to
watch. At the end of the lessons we were all excited for the next
lesson. Two days later we come over for the next lesson and his wife
comes too. We teach about the priesthood power and the foundation of
modern revelation in our church, and slowly he starts to understand and
with tears in his eyes he just nods. We then engaged him for baptism.
He decided on the 5th of Aug.
He hopes to also baptise his wife and daughter if they officially
decide to get baptised. He made a complete 180 degree turn in 5 days. I
am so touched to have been able to watch as he develops a real
relationship for Heavenly Father. This man found faith and hope in
Jesus while he was in prison sometime ago and now he has found the way
to Christ and is willing to follow. I know God has been waiting for
this right time for all of Me-Now's life. (The picture of the man
across the table is Me-Now, with his huge Bible, which was about 130 US
Dollars, pictures included inside for the avid reader ;)
The Second story is about an devout RLDS 20 year old named Soone. I
think I will tell her story next week. ( In the pictures, Soon is
braiding my companions hair)
Everyone's favorite thing to
ask is if we have eaten Fafaroo - the 1 to 3 day old fish fermented
outside in sea water. Well, in a spur of the moment thing, a drunk Papi
at our Faatamaraa walks up and asks if we want to eat Fafaroo right
then. Of course, we say yes, because the missionary life is doing
whatever the people do. So he brings out his big jar of marinating fish
chunks, and just our luck it had been out for 3 days, yummm. And
Voila! Ate a chunk each, and didnt have any drink to wash it down. I
think me and the Papi were equally proud. Not, actually, the worst food
ever haha. ( Video included )Yes Poppy, I have officially arrived, as I got to rock a Moo-Moo out on the streets all day. Thanks to cute little Mami Fai who happen to have 15 extra Moo-Moo's just lyin around! ( white dress pic )
"Well, I thought it was funny" Moment of the Week:
1. When my comp asks to go to the bathroom at an ami's house and the Ami shows her to the shower. And then says "sorry, I knows it's a little dirty, but yeah", and then leaves her there starring in horror at the tiny drain in the floor. It wasn't until I told the ami that my comp wanted to use the toilet that she laughed and showed her to the actual bathroom. What makes it better is there is a large group of islanders who dont use toilet paper and prefer to shower. So it was a very likely situation.
Church History fact, Parley P Pratt actually came to Tahiti, that's why there is a big population of RLDS and LDS people here.
At
church it is 100 percent acceptable to have someone playing the piano
as background music to your talk. Or if you are in the mood, just sing a
song randomly during your testimony. The rest of the ward will soon
follow along!
It's hard here when people get excommunicated so frequently.
in
the June 2017 Liahona, at the beginning there is a really good brief
talk from President Monson about missionaries who serve for whatever
amount of time they can. I really loved it, maybe you will too.
